Individual humanitarian work was a hallmark of Yaqui-Anglo relations in the early- to mid-twentieth century. Individuals like Muriel Thayer Painter, educators Thamar Richey and Winnie Wheeler, the Spicers, and others exemplified this impulse of dedication and generosity.
